our story

Margie's Foundation is on a mission to aid the education, lives and futures of Maasai children in Tanzania. We believe that Maasai children need to be supported and educated to ensure they can protect their age-old culture and way of life before it is lost forever.

It began with Margie...
Margie was a teacher for over 45 years, starting in primary education and later moving into special needs. She spent the majority of her working life in the North East of Scotland. She had an incredible rapport with children, parents and teachers alike and was highly respected by them all. Margie was a selfless, caring, and considerate teacher who helped many children.
Margie's legacy...
Margie passed away in 2021, after helping many children see and reach their full potential. Reading was Margie’s lifelong passion and she truly believed that reading was the key to a child’s future. Her daughter, Sally, wants to continue Margie's amazing legacy in education just not in the UK...

Sally's Story...
After getting to the point of total burnout in the UK, Sally left a great salary and the safety of a good career to volunteer in Africa. She worked on numerous projects in Tanzania where she met the Maasai and learned of their culture & traditions. The Maasai changed her life for the better & she wants to do the same for them.
Following her Footsteps...
In 2022, Margie's Foundation was born. It is Sally's aim to continue Margie's legacy and follow in her footsteps; supporting and caring for children's education with the values of learn, love, laugh.

why?
In Tanzania, 47% of 5-year-olds are not in pre-primary education and 67% of children aged 14-17 are not enrolled in secondary education. Furthermore, only 37% of Maasai girls enrol in school, with only 10% making it to secondary school.
The future of the Maasai, like most indigenous tribes, is uncertain. Their incredible culture is being eroded at the expense of civilisation. It is critically important that Maasai children are educated so that they can protect their age-old culture, not just for themselves but for the rest of the world. We could all learn so much from their way of life - living at one with nature, protecting and respecting it.
If the next generation of Maasai are not educated to a level where they can fight their corner & make a sustainable future the tribe could be another that is lost forever.

Margie's mission
To aid the education, lives and futures of Maasai children in Tanzania, through improving their learning environments, creating and supplying libraries and collaborating with schools in other countries.
In loving memory of

OUR PROJECTS
We are incredibly proud of some of the projects we have already completed, thanks to generous donations. We have refurbished an entire primary school, bought cows & goats for over 20 children, donated countless clothes and items of stationary, and we are sponsoring 5 children to attend independent schools to give them a better level of education.
GET INVOLVED
We have already welcomed so many amazing people to Margie's family - do you want to get involved?
There are so many ways you could help the Maasai children’s futures. From providing a school uniform to a child in need for just £20, to sponsoring a child to attend an independent school for £500 per annum.
