Loosikito Community School

Recently, we visited Loosikito, a Maasai community in the Manyara district of Tanzania, home to over 250 children of school age. However, very few of them were enrolled at school for the simple reason that there isn't one in their village. In fact, the nearest school is over 30km away in Loolera.

Creating a Space for Learning

After discovering that so few children received an education in Loosikito village, Margie's Foundation knew that this would be an important project.

We learned of a church in the village and wondered if the space could be used as a school. After recent conversations with the Maasai leader of the community, the village have agreed for this to be allowed!

Meet the Teacher

Meet Lucas Mathew Ngoiyo, a 23-year-old Maasai who was orphaned at the age of 3. Lucas was fortunate to be sponsored through primary and secondary education before heading to university to gain a teaching degree.

He has recently returned to the village where he was born, Loosikito, and is keen to start a school to educate the children of his community, and ultimately, give them a brighter future.

Let the Work Begin

Following a wonderful donation from a German family, Margie’s Foundation was able to purchase the supplies required to get the school up and running. We could also provide Lucas with a small, monthly salary for the rest of the year!

After buying wood, MDF & other supplies the community rallied round and built a blackboard & A4 writing boards to create a learning space for the children of Loosikito community.
